Jo’s Story
Jo’s Dad John was admitted to Princess
Royal University Hospital (PRUH)
just before Christmas after becoming
seriously unwell. During his time at
King’s, John formed close bonds with
many of the staff, particularly Healthcare
Assistant Darryl, whose kindness,
humour and compassion made a lasting
impact on both John and Jo. So much
so, that John had a picture with Darryl
framed and put on his bedside table.

John was transferred to Orpington and
passed away peacefully, surrounded
by Jo, her sons and caring staff. Jo says
the experience of her Dad’s treatment
at King’s gave her great comfort and
believes the care John received went
above and beyond. She couldn’t have
wished for anything better, knowing he
was surrounded by such compassionate
and warm staff. For Jo, it gave her a
sense of peace, and that’s why there was
no question in her mind to give to King’s
in her Dad’s memory.
